Talk_Storytelling for Beginners
There are several things that I have to say in response to these ideas.
- Ardyn's dilemma is a problem for me on a couple of levels.
- *His decision to change was made in character, but it's put me in the position of nearly writing him out of the story. He's got problems dealing with evil magic, but that's been the power that been running in this party. His excuse right now is it's not his religion, but that one's ringing real hollow. So how does Ardyn start acting against the Dark magic in the party?
- *The Internal conflict right now is that, internal. Ardyn's conflict was driven by the Dark Flame and Fiends inside of the game. The change is a result of that, and post the change, it still needs to show up again to help drive it. Reforming the Church of Eltabbar in the off-time is rearranging the deck chairs.
- A secret kept perfectly secret is not relevant to the game. Rylaun being a drow is has had very little effect on the overall story. Gino has him covered in every circumstance. He's never caught out, there are no holes in his defense so he can never be caught as a drow. Has a hint or a slip been brought up? He could have been a human priest of Mask, and very little would have to be differnt.
- I've thrown something in there to help peel away some of Svetlana's secret, but it needs to be worked upon. Ardyn now knows that she speaks Rashoum and probably learned it from the witches. For Ardyn, the witches are not his problem anymore, so it doesn't matter. Svetlana needs to realize that she let that ball drop. Feel free to have one of these development arcs revolve around her as long as it doesn't take too long (maybe a half a session to a whole session).
- :Actually, thinking about it, if something serious threatened the world from Ardyn's angle of attack, he might go to the Witches for help if he felt he needed help he couldn't get from Thay. He's probably the only living Male Battlemage left from the Raumathari tradition, and sending him to them might make a good story.
